Terms of use
HalalScope is offered as a voluntary, non-commercial community project. These terms limit what you can expect from the service and protect the people running it within reasonable bounds.
This document is not legal advice. If you need binding legal certainty, consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
1. Agreement
By accessing or using HalalScope (the Service), including the mobile app, the website at halalscope.app, and related APIs, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What HalalScope is
HalalScope helps you look up products and related information (for example ingredients and community signals) to support your own judgment. Product data may come from third-party databases, user contributions, and automated checks. Information may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect.
3. Religious and health disclaimer
The Service is an informational tool only. It is not a fatwa, a substitute for qualified Islamic scholarship, or medical, legal, or dietary advice tailored to you. You remain responsible for your own choices, including verifying products with manufacturers, certifiers, or scholars you trust.
4. Eligibility and account
You must be able to form a binding contract in your country (typically at least 16 years old in many EU contexts). You are responsible for the accuracy of registration information and for keeping credentials confidential. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm the Service or other users.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service unlawfully, fraudulently, or to harass others;
- Attempt to break, overload, or bypass security or rate limits;
- Scrape or resell the Service or its data in bulk without permission;
- Submit false product data, manipulate community signals in bad faith, or impersonate others;
- Use the Service in any way that infringes third-party rights.
6. User content
If you submit products, reports, votes, or other content, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, process, display, and improve the Service using that content. You represent that you are allowed to submit it. We may moderate, remove, or refuse content.
7. Intellectual property
HalalScope’s name, branding, and original materials are protected by applicable laws. Third-party names and data remain property of their respective owners. You receive a limited, revocable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes unless we agree otherwise in writing.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE OPERATORS OF HALALSCOPE AND THEIR CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (TYPICALLY ZERO FOR A FREE SERVICE) OR (B) FIFTY EUROS (€50), EXCEPT WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW (SUCH AS GROSS NEGLIGENCE OR INTENT UNDER GERMAN LAW, OR MANDATORY CONSUMER RIGHTS).
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Service operators from claims arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
11. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms. We will update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may be announced in the app or on the website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where allowed by law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may stop offering the Service or restrict access with or without notice, especially for maintenance, legal reasons, or abuse.
13. Governing law
Unless mandatory consumer protection rules in your country require otherwise, these Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Germany shall have jurisdiction for disputes with users who are merchants or have no general jurisdiction in Germany; for consumers, statutory venue rules may apply.
If any provision is invalid, the remainder stays in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
